About the Poinsettia
Brightly coloured and mostly red, a Poinsettia is especially popular over the festive season to bring warmth and colour inside. The bright petals of the Poinsettia, which look like flowers, are actually the upper leaves of the plant, called bracts.

Growing a Poinsettia
It is best to take cuttings from an original Poinsettia plant in July or August. Remove a 3 or 4 inch cutting from the new growth on the plant and insert each cutting into a small pot. Keep the cuttings shaded and watered during the rooting period, which is about 3 weeks. Avoid placing your Poinsettia in areas which receive air movement from windows, doors, fans or radiators, as this can cause leaf drop.

Turquise can come in different shades of blue or green and is commonly veined or mottled with brown or black. Turquoise is perhaps the oldest gemstone in human history.
